The Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi has announced a nationwide load shedding exercise that will run for one week, from Sunday, March 22 to Saturday, March 28, 2026.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the utility said the measure is aimed at managing electricity demand in the face of supply constraints linked to limited generation capacity.
Under the schedule, electricity supply will be rationed across the country for between three and eight hours daily.
Malawi’s installed power generation capacity stands at about 390 to 395 megawatts, with hydropower accounting for the bulk of supply.
However, ESCOM did not indicate the current level of electricity being generated.
