The Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) Limited has announced new policy targets aimed at improving service delivery, strengthening operational discipline, and rebuilding public trust.
Board Chairperson Alfred Nhlema said operational performance is now a top strategic priority, with fault response times, maintenance backlogs, and network reliability receiving the same attention as financial and governance matters.
The Board has realigned institutional priorities to support frontline operations, including ring-fencing resources for mobility, fast-tracking critical spares, and shifting to preventive maintenance. Executive and management performance will be tied to measurable outcomes, ensuring accountability at every level.
ESCOM will also introduce standardized dashboards and performance monitoring systems to track fault restoration, network uptime, and customer feedback, while regular operational reviews and consequence management mechanisms will address underperformance.
“Our goal is to restore service reliability and rebuild public confidence through measurable, visible outcomes,” Nhlema said.
