Eskom is continuing efforts to repair powerlines damaged during veld fires in the Kouga Local Municipality, which have destroyed homes, farms, livestock, and infrastructure.
“Eskom continues to work tirelessly repairing the damaged powerlines caused by aggressive veld fires in St Francis Bay and surrounding areas, including Twin Valley, Linderhof Lodge, and River Kaya,” the utility said.
Customers still affected by the outages are urged to remain patient as repairs are being prioritized. Technicians are currently focusing on:
•St Francis Bay/Melkhout 22kV line – replacing two poles
•Melkhout/Gamtoos 22kV line – line patrolling, inspection, and damage assessment
Eskom reminded residents to take necessary safety precautions and thanked customers for their patience during the disruption.
Meanwhile, the Kouga Local Municipality reported that most fires have been contained, though emergency services remain on high alert for potential flare-ups. Mopping-up operations are ongoing in Linderhof and other affected areas, with aerial support assisting ground crews where heavy smoke persists.
The municipality also warned of reports of copper cable theft and burning and urged residents to report any suspicious activity immediately.
