Residents of Maryland and River Gee counties in Liberia will soon experience improved electricity services as LIBENERGY initiates a significant upgrade of its infrastructure. The utility company is rolling out new transmission poles and expanding its metering system to enhance service reliability and address ongoing power disruptions. Recently, LIBENERGY installed 3,000 new energy meters, benefiting over half of the electricity customers in Maryland County. Manager Henry Gahie Hodge emphasized that the expanded metering will improve billing accuracy and help consumers monitor their electricity usage more effectively.
A central aspect of the infrastructure upgrade involves replacing outdated wooden poles, frequently associated with outages and safety issues, with more durable metal poles, thereby ensuring a more stable power supply. To facilitate these improvements, LIBENERGY has also acquired a new Toyota Hilux 4×4 pickup, enhancing its ability to perform rapid field maintenance and repairs.
Despite these advancements, challenges remain due to legacy issues from the 2017 installation by contractor COMPTREND, including faulty insulators and connectors that have affected system reliability. Hodge described these issues as persistent challenges but reassured customers that efforts are underway to resolve them. Additionally, LIBENERGY is collaborating with the Liberia Electricity Corporation to extend services to previously unconnected communities. Hodge stated their commitment to ensuring that no community is left without power, promising that ongoing upgrades will lead to more reliable electricity and improved living standards for residents.
