Jinapor Calls for Strategic Investment in LPG Infrastructure

The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, has called for strategic investment in liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) infrastructure to strengthen Ghana’s energy security and expand access to cleaner energy.

He said improved LPG infrastructure would be critical to increasing supply for households and businesses while supporting Ghana’s ambition to position itself as a regional energy and logistics hub.

Dr Jinapor made the call in Tema at a reception to welcome the MT Asharami Ghana, a 40,000-cubic-metre LPG carrier with a cargo capacity of 5,000 metric tonnes.

The vessel, purpose-built to serve Ghana and neighbouring markets, is expected to support LPG supply reliability and improve access to cleaner energy across West Africa.

Dr Jinapor said the arrival of the vessel demonstrated the importance of private-sector investment and collaboration with government in developing infrastructure to secure Ghana’s energy future.

He commended Sahara Group for its contribution to the country’s energy sector, saying government alone could not achieve its energy security and sustainable development objectives.

Sahara Group Executive Director, Wale Ajibade, said the vessel represented a strategic investment in regional energy infrastructure spanning shipping, storage and downstream distribution.

He said the maiden voyage reflected the Group’s confidence in Ghana’s potential and its commitment to supporting sustainable energy solutions.

Managing Director of Asharami Ghana, Yaa Serwaa Alifo, described the vessel’s arrival as a significant milestone for the company and Ghana’s energy sector, saying it would strengthen supply reliability for households and businesses.
