Hon. John Jinapor Advocates for Inclusive Growth in Ghana’s Energy Transition

Minister of Energy and Green Transition, Hon. John Jinapor, has emphasized Africa’s commitment to renewable energy and sustainable growth, urging swift action to transform the continent’s energy landscape. During the inaugural West African Green Economy Roundtable and Awards (WAGER) 2025 in Accra, Acting Chief Director Mr. Solomon Adjetey Sowah delivered a keynote address highlighting Africa’s abundant resources as a pathway to a renewable future. He outlined three key strategies for driving this transformation: establishing robust policy frameworks, mobilizing investments, and adopting technology alongside community empowerment.

Mr. Sowah asserted that effective policies enable investment, which in turn fuels technological advancements that empower communities. Special Guest Mr. Paa-Kwasi Koomson emphasized the financial aspects, calling for West African nations to use blended finance and green bonds to meet the estimated $194 billion needed annually for climate goals. Apostle Ing Alexander Nana Yaw Kumi-Larbi, representing the Church of Pentecost, remarked on the spiritual responsibility of sustainability, framing environmental preservation as an act of worship.

The event celebrated the 10th anniversary of Pent TV and aimed to intertwine faith, policy, and innovation for West Africa’s green future. Academia contributed by proposing initiatives to prepare 20,000 artisans for green jobs in sustainable industries. The consensus among speakers was clear: WAGER 2025 must translate discussions into actionable strategies, urging stakeholders to invest boldly, collaborate regionally, and innovate inclusively for a sustainable energy transition.
