Ghana partners Eni, Vitol and GNPC to expand OCTP gas production to 350 mmscf per day by 2028

Ghana has formalised a new agreement with Eni Ghana E&P, Vitol Upstream Ghana Limited, and Ghana National Petroleum Corporation to significantly increase domestic gas output from the Offshore Cape Three Points OCTP project.

The initiative is expected to lift production from about 280 million standard cubic feet per day to 350 million standard cubic feet per day by 2028, strengthening supply to the domestic market.

The agreement was executed by the Minister for Energy and Green Transition Hon Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor and the Minister for Finance Cassiel Ato Baah Forson on behalf of government.

It establishes a framework of commercial principles to guide the rollout of new infrastructure under the OCTP Non Associated Gas Upgrade Project, which is designed to unlock additional gas volumes.

The deal builds on a prior Memorandum of Intent signed in September 2025, under which the parties committed to deepen collaboration and invest in expanding Ghana’s gas capacity.

Planned developments include the exploitation of the Gye Nyame field, as well as the installation of a booster compressor and an additional non associated gas system on the project’s floating production storage and offloading vessel.

At present, gas deliveries from the Jubilee and OCTP fields for power generation are estimated at about 396 million standard cubic feet per day, underscoring the importance of the planned increase.

The expansion is expected to reinforce Ghana’s energy security, cut dependence on imported fuels, and meet rising demand from industry and households.

Speaking after the signing, Hon Dr. Jinapor described the agreement as a key step forward, noting that it reinforces investor confidence and signals that Ghana’s upstream petroleum sector remains stable competitive and open to further investment.

He added that government remains committed to ensuring that the country’s natural resources are developed responsibly to deliver long term benefits to citizens.
