The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has scheduled July 23, 2025, as the trial date for Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, the former CEO of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), along with six other individuals and three companies.
They are facing 25 charges including extortion by a public officer and money laundering in connection with an alleged GH¢280 million corruption scheme.
The accused allegedly extorted funds unlawfully between 2022 and December 2024 from petroleum transporters and oil marketing firms under the guise of NPA operations.
The extortion scheme was reportedly led by Abdul-Hamid and carried out with the help of two other NPA staff members—Jacob Kwamina Amuah and Wendy Newman.
OSP investigations uncovered that four other accused persons used three companies—Propnest Ltd., Kel Logistics Ltd., and Kings Energy Ltd.—to launder the extorted money.
The illicit funds were allegedly used to buy and construct homes, build fuel stations, and acquire oil distribution trucks to mask the criminal origins of the money.
One of the suspects, Osei Tutu Adjei, remains at large, while the rest have been granted inquiry bail pending their appearance before Criminal Division 3 of the High Court in Accra.
The case is titled *Republic v Mustapha Abdul-Hamid and 9 Others* and was publicly confirmed in a post by the OSP on X (formerly Twitter).
The OSP reaffirmed its commitment to prosecuting corruption cases impartially and called on public institutions to report any suspicious conduct.
