Energy Minister Praises Progress in Atuabo Gas Plant Maintenance

John Abdulai Jinapor, Ghana’s Minister of Energy and Green Transition, has expressed his approval of the ongoing maintenance work at the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant, calling it vital for improving efficiency and reliability in the nation’s energy sector. The plant is currently undergoing a scheduled shutdown aimed at enhancing its performance and increasing processing capacity.

Once maintenance is complete, the plant’s output is expected to rise from 100 million standard cubic feet (mmscf) to 120 mmscf per day. The minister emphasized that this upgrade is integral to the government’s Gas-to-Power vision, which aims to optimize the use of natural gas resources to provide stable and affordable electricity.

Additionally, Jinapor announced plans for a second gas processing plant, highlighting the government’s commitment to ensuring long-term energy security. Reflecting on recent advancements, he noted that Ghana has made significant strides since overcoming severe challenges in late 2024, when the country faced substantial load shedding.

He recalled that in December 2024, approximately 700 MW of power was being shed, but now, there has been zero load shedding for several months, with Ghana even exporting electricity to neighboring countries. The minister reaffirmed the government’s dedication to transforming the energy landscape and assured Ghanaians of a more secure and sustainable energy future.
