The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor, has officially inaugurated a new Board of Directors for the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo), with a call for decisive action to resolve the persistent operational challenges facing the utility provider. The inauguration ceremony took place in Accra on Monday, October 14, 2025.
In his address, Hon. Jinapor underscored NEDCo’s vital role in Ghana’s energy distribution chain, particularly in the northern regions, where the company serves as a lifeline for households and industries. He charged the new board to focus on three core priorities — strengthening revenue mobilisation, improving customer education, and ensuring stable power supply across all operational areas.
“NEDCo remains a critical pillar in our national energy framework. Your leadership must bring about meaningful and measurable improvements in efficiency, service delivery, and financial stability,” the Minister stated. He also stressed the need for stronger collaboration between NEDCo’s management and staff union to promote harmony and enhance operational effectiveness.
The newly appointed board is chaired by Cletus Seidu Dapilah and includes Ing. Prof. Felix Kofi Abagale, Dr. Emelia Guo, Ing. Edward Obeng Kenzo, Ing. John Okine Yamoah (Ag. Managing Director), and Alhaji Seidu Imoro. Together, they are expected to drive the company’s reform agenda and ensure its alignment with Ghana’s broader energy transition goals.
Responding on behalf of the board, Chairman Cletus Seidu Dapilah expressed gratitude to the President for the trust placed in them. He pledged that the board would work tirelessly to transform NEDCo into a model public utility committed to reliability, innovation, and customer satisfaction.
“We fully understand the challenges before us and are determined to reposition NEDCo as a benchmark for operational excellence within Ghana’s evolving energy sector,” Dapilah affirmed.
The inauguration marks a renewed commitment by the government to strengthen energy distribution systems, improve service delivery, and promote accountability across state-owned enterprises in the power sector. It also reinforces Ghana’s ongoing efforts to modernize its utility infrastructure as part of the country’s green transition and sustainable energy agenda.
