Energy Minister Assures Stable Power Supply after June Amid Ongoing Plant Maintenance

The Minister of Energy and Green Transition,Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor, has assured the public that Ghana will experience a stable power supply after June, following comprehensive maintenance works on several power plants nationwide.

The assurance comes in response to rising public concern over intermittent power outages, commonly referred to as dumsor, which have affected various parts of the country in recent weeks.

According to the minister, many of Ghana’s thermal power plants have exceeded their recommended operational hours, making routine maintenance both urgent and critical. He revealed that scheduled servicing for several plants in 2024 had previously been neglected, which has contributed to the recent instability in power delivery.

The ongoing maintenance activities are expected to cause short-term disruptions but are necessary to ensure the long-term reliability and resilience of the national power infrastructure. The ministry has outlined that major servicing will be carried out in May, with minimal work expected in June. This schedule is projected to pave the way for improved power stability in the second half of the year.

The Energy Minister also appealed for public patience as the government continues to implement measures aimed at minimizing the impact of the outages while securing the future of Ghana’s power sector.
