The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has announced that the Energy Commission of Ghana is establishing a nationwide system to monitor all power outages across the country. He says the move is aimed at improving accountability and strengthening electricity supply reliability.
Speaking during an inspection of transformer replacement works at Nmai Dzorn Primary School, the Minister explained that by the end of each month, all districts will be required to account for the causes of outages, response times, and corrective actions taken. He stressed that appropriate sanctions would be applied where necessary.
The visit formed part of a supervisory tour of the ongoing Transformer Replacement and Upgrade Programme being implemented by the Electricity Company of Ghana. The initiative involves replacing ageing and overloaded transformers as part of efforts to improve the stability, reliability and capacity of the national power system.
Dr Jinapor further disclosed that government will roll out about 2,000 new transformers nationwide, with works extending beyond Accra to Kumasi and other regions. He assured consumers that while temporary outages may occur during the exercise, the long-term objective is to deliver a more stable and efficient power supply.
