
Indigenous oil marketing company Star Oil has emerged as the leading seller of petroleum products in Ghana for the first five months of 2025, according to the National Petroleum Authority (NPA). The report reveals that Star Oil surpassed long-time leader GOIL, selling a total of 336.3 million liters of petroleum products during this period.
Star Oil’s performance includes 193.9 million liters of petrol, 139.3 million liters of diesel, and 3.1 million liters of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG). In contrast, GOIL sold 271.3 million liters, comprising 156 million liters of petrol, 111 million liters of diesel, and 3.6 million liters of LPG. The overall petroleum sales in Ghana exceeded 2.4 billion liters, contributed by over 200 oil marketing firms.
Star Oil’s strong performance not only solidifies its position in the industry but also resulted in the company paying GH¢1.1 billion in taxes to the government in the first half of the year. This shift in leadership marks a significant change in the competitive landscape of Ghana’s oil marketing sector.
