Africa Deepens Solar Revolution with India’s Backing at the 8th International Solar Alliance Assembly

At the 8th International Solar Alliance (ISA) Assembly held in New Delhi, India, African nations stepped into the spotlight, partnering with India to accelerate access to affordable off-grid solar energy across the continent. The 2025 gathering highlighted a shared vision between Africa and India to expand renewable energy solutions that promote sustainability, self-reliance, and energy equity.

Among the active participants was Ghana, which signed a country partnership agreement with the ISA to deploy solar-powered irrigation pumps. This initiative is designed to bolster food and water security, reducing Ghana’s $2 billion annual food import bill and boosting agricultural productivity through clean energy use.

The collaboration reflects a broader African strategy to harness solar power as a means of combating energy poverty, enhancing climate resilience, and reducing dependence on costly fossil fuels. India’s technical expertise and financial support have been key drivers in enabling African countries to transition toward sustainable energy systems.

Beyond Africa, small island states such as Dominica also presented their renewable energy plans during the assembly. Dominica announced its goal to reach 100% renewable energy by 2030, with 75% of its electricity expected to come from hydro and geothermal sources by 2026.

The New Delhi conference reaffirmed India’s position as a trusted global partner in the renewable energy sector. Through the ISA platform, India continues to lead a wave of SouthSouth cooperation, empowering developing nations to embrace low-cost, clean power and shape a greener, more resilient future for generations to come.
