The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has commissioned a new smart meter manufacturing facility established by MBH Power Limited in Tema Community 1. The plant, valued at nearly one million US dollars, is expected to produce up to 750,000 smart meters each year to help address Ghana’s meter deficit and cut down on imports.
MBH Power Limited, which has operated in Ghana since 2007, has previously undertaken electrification and power infrastructure projects in parts of the country. Company officials say the new factory underscores their long term commitment to Ghana’s energy sector and will support efforts to reduce power theft and enhance revenue collection.
The Minister welcomed the investment, noting that increased local production will ease persistent supply challenges. He added that engagements are ongoing with the Electricity Company of Ghana and the Northern Electricity Distribution Company to strengthen meter procurement and distribution nationwide.
