Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) (Private) Limited has appointed engineer Cletus Nyachowe as Group Chief Executive Officer, with his appointment taking effect from May 1, 2026.
The new leadership appointment comes after the reorganisation of the ZESA Group into a single vertically integrated electricity utility under ZESA (Private) Limited, the company said in a statement issued on Sunday.
The statement, signed by ZESA Board Chairman Albert Joel Nduna, said Nyachowe brings extensive experience in the power and telecommunications industries.
Nyachowe holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Zimbabwe. He is also a registered professional engineer and a fellow of the Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers.
His career with ZESA dates back to 1988, during which time he has occupied a number of senior technical and management positions within the organisation.
Among his previous roles was Managing Director of Powertel Communications, where he oversaw the creation and expansion of what the company described as Zimbabwe’s first telecommunications provider focused on data services.
Nyachowe later served as Executive Director for Group Operations at ZESA Holdings, where he was responsible for executive leadership and coordinating operations across the group’s various businesses. He also held the position of Executive Director for International Business at the utility.
His experience includes responsibility for Zimbabwe’s national electricity transmission network, as well as consultancy assignments across the Southern African Development Community (SADC) on renewable energy and the development of regional electricity markets.
He has additionally served as a non-executive director on the boards of organisations in the banking, insurance and asset management industries, alongside institutions including universities and regulatory bodies.
Before being confirmed as Group CEO, Nyachowe served as Acting Group Chief Executive Officer of ZESA during a period of institutional restructuring and transition.
ZESA said the board, management and employees have confidence in Nyachowe’s ability to lead the utility through its strategic and operational transformation following the integration of the ZESA Group.
