Yendi Solar Project: First Sky Energies to Add 50MW to National Grid

VFirst Sky Energies, a subsidiary of the First Sky Group, is set to contribute 50 megawatts of renewable energy to Ghana’s national grid with the completion of a new solar power plant in Yendi by March 2026.

The announcement was made by the Founder and Executive Chairman of the First Sky Group, Mr Eric Seddy Kutortse, during the company’s 23rd anniversary and thanksgiving service in Accra. He described the project as a key step in supporting national development through sustainable energy solutions.

The 50MW Solar PV plant, located on 140 acres of land in the Yendi District of the Northern Region, is expected to strengthen Ghana’s electricity infrastructure, helping to prevent unforeseen power shortages and ensuring reliable supply for households and businesses.

Mr Kutortse highlighted that the project is fully Ghanaian-owned, making it the second largest utility-scale solar installation in the country. He emphasized that it aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including affordable and clean energy, decent work, economic growth, and climate action.

The plant is also expected to create approximately 300 jobs, particularly benefiting communities in the Northern Region, while advancing Ghana’s green energy transition and positioning the country as a regional leader in renewable energy and sustainable development.
