Togo Oil Company S.A. and Lomé-Tokoin Airport Company (SALT) have signed two strategic agreements to expand aviation fuel infrastructure and support the introduction of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in Togo.
The agreements were formalised on Friday, June 19, 2026, in Lomé during the African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC) Convention and Exhibition, according to a report by Togo First.
The first agreement focuses on the development of a Sustainable Aviation Fuel supply chain aimed at gradually replacing part of conventional jet fuel with renewable and waste-based alternatives. The initiative is expected to significantly reduce carbon emissions from aviation operations and position Togo among the early adopters of SAF in West Africa.
The second agreement provides for the construction of a 1,500-cubic-metre Jet A1 fuel storage tank at Gnassingbé Eyadéma International Airport in Lomé to strengthen aviation fuel storage capacity, improve supply security, and support growing air traffic demand.
Speaking at the signing, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Hon. Robert Koffi Messan Eklo, described the initiative as part of a broader government vision to position Lomé as a leading aviation and logistics hub in the sub-region.
He noted that the investment aligns with national efforts to balance economic growth with environmental sustainability while enhancing the competitiveness of Togo’s aviation sector.
The introduction of SAF is also expected to attract green investment and support the country’s transition toward cleaner energy systems, in line with global aviation decarbonisation targets.
