The Chairman of the Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC), Richard Ellimah, has held high-level discussions with the Minister for Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, over funding constraints threatening the Committee’s oversight work.
At the meeting on January 26, 2026, Mr Ellimah drew attention to persistent delays and shortfalls in budgetary allocations, warning that inadequate funding undermines PIAC’s ability to effectively monitor and evaluate the management of Ghana’s petroleum revenues.
He stressed that as mandated by the Petroleum Revenue Management Act (PRMA), PIAC plays a critical role in promoting transparency, accountability and public confidence in the use of petroleum revenues—an objective that depends heavily on timely and sustainable financing.
Dr Forson acknowledged PIAC’s importance as a key accountability institution and assured the Committee of government’s commitment to addressing the funding challenges to strengthen oversight and safeguard public interest in the petroleum sector.
