Ørsted Sells European Onshore Wind Business to CIP in €1.44bn Deal

Danish renewable energy company Ørsted has agreed to sell its European onshore wind business to Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) for €1.44 billion ($1.7 billion), as part of efforts to strengthen its balance sheet and sharpen its strategic focus.

The divestment follows Ørsted’s earlier moves to sell a 50% stake in the Hornsea 3 offshore wind project and 55% of the Changhua 2 project, underscoring a broader portfolio rebalancing strategy.

Ørsted said the transaction supports its priority of refocusing on offshore wind development in its core European markets, where substantial new capacity is expected to be tendered in the coming years.

The company noted that the sale will improve financial flexibility while allowing it to concentrate resources on large-scale offshore projects, which remain central to its long-term growth strategy.
