Morocco Seeks U.S. Investment for $26 Billion Trans-African Gas Pipeline Project

Morocco is actively courting American investors to fund a massive $26 billion gas pipeline project that will connect Nigeria to North Africa and Europe. The ambitious initiative, announced during the U.S.-Morocco Business Forum in Washington, aims to strengthen energy ties between Africa, Europe, and the U.S.

The 5,600-kilometer pipeline, set to be one of the world’s longest, will transport Nigerian gas through 11 African countries before reaching Morocco and European markets. Moroccan officials argue the project will enhance regional energy security and economic growth while reducing Europe’s reliance on Russian gas.

Key stakeholders include Morocco’s National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines (ONHYM) and Nigeria’s National Petroleum Company (NNPC), with backing from the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC). If completed, the pipeline could supply up to 3 billion cubic feet of gas per day, reshaping Africa’s energy landscape.
