Ghana’s Minister of Energy and Green Transition, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor, has officially inaugurated a 10-member Electricity Market Oversight Panel (EMOP) in Accra. The event took place as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to safeguard stability and efficiency in the nation’s power sector.

During the inauguration, the minister praised the expertise of the appointed members and pledged the Ministry’s full support to guide them in their work. He stressed the need for transparency and urged the panel to review wholesale electricity market operations, procedures, and manuals to strengthen accountability.

The chairman of the panel, Samuel Sarpong, assured stakeholders that the team would operate strictly under the newly approved market rules. He emphasized that their decisions would also align with existing energy policies and sector regulations.

The 10-member body includes Samuel Sarpong, Bernard Modey, Madam Eunice Biritwum, Kisman A. Eghan, Frank A. Yeboah, Richard N.A. Badger, Frank A. Otchere, Kwame Kpekpena, Mark Baah, and Dr. Shafic Suleman. Their collective expertise is expected to drive the reform agenda in Ghana’s electricity market.

The EMOP’s primary role will be to reinforce regulatory oversight, promote efficiency, and enhance the credibility of the electricity supply chain. The minister noted that such interventions are vital to restore investor confidence while assuring consumers of fair market practices.

The establishment of the panel is viewed as a strategic step in Ghana’s transition towards a more transparent and reliable energy market. By ensuring compliance with rules and encouraging efficiency, the EMOP is positioned to boost the nation’s long-term energy security.
