Liberia: LERC grants five-year electricity import licence to LEC

The Liberia Electricity Regulatory Commission has approved a five-year electricity import licence for the Liberia Electricity Corporation following a public hearing held at the David A. Day Memorial Lutheran Church.

The licence authorises LEC to import electricity and supply it to the Liberia Interconnected Transmission System from April 1, 2026, to March 31, 2031.

The approval is seen as a key step toward enhancing Liberia’s energy security and improving the reliability of electricity supply across the national grid.

It is also expected to support efforts to meet rising demand, strengthen service delivery, and expand access to affordable power for consumers nationwide.

LERC noted that the decision is in line with its mandate to promote a resilient and efficient electricity sector, while LEC reaffirmed its commitment to using the licence to optimise supply and improve operational performance within the transmission system.
