Kenya Power hosts Ghana’s PURC delegation for energy and EV collaboration talks

Kenya Power hosted a six-member delegation from Public Utilities Regulatory Commission for a high- level engagement centred on the future of energy and electric mobility across Africa.

The visit created an opportunity for both institutions to compare regulatory and tariff frameworks, while exchanging practical experiences from Kenya’s evolving electric vehicle ecosystem.

Discussions focused on key areas including EV integration into the grid, infrastructure development, data driven energy management, and the policy frameworks needed to scale adoption in a sustainable manner.

The engagement reflects the growing role of cross border collaboration in advancing Africa’s clean energy transition, with both countries seeking to harmonise approaches and strengthen regulatory systems.

As it advances its transition to sustainable transport, Kenya Power continues to play a pivotal role in supporting the country’s EV ecosystem.

Its efforts include developing EV supportive tariff structures, enhancing grid capacity to meet rising electricity demand, and investing in distribution network planning.

The utility is also rolling out smart metering and billing solutions tailored for EV users, while supporting the deployment and management of electric vehicle fleets.

Additionally, Kenya Power is partnering with both public and private sector stakeholders to expand EV charging infrastructure nationwide, reinforcing Kenya’s position in the continent’s growing electric mobility space.
