Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) has added Maxim Agri & Samakgro as the latest investor in its Green Energy Park, a geothermal-powered industrial hub aimed at supporting sustainable manufacturing and economic development.
The company said Maxim Agri & Samakgro plans to establish a fish feed production facility at the park, using 3 megawatts (MW) of electricity to operate an 8-metric-tonne-per-hour manufacturing plant.
The facility, which represents an investment of about $3.95 million, is expected to boost Kenya’s local fish feed production capacity and support the expanding aquaculture industry by meeting growing market demand.
KenGen noted that the investment makes Maxim Agri & Samakgro the second company to join the Green Energy Park this year, increasing the number of investors at the facility to five.
KenGen Managing Director and Chief Executive Peter Njenga said the continued interest from investors highlights the importance of reliable and cost-effective clean energy in driving industrial growth.
He said the company’s position as Kenya’s leading renewable energy producer enables it to provide the geothermal power required to support industrial transformation.
For his part, Maxim Agri Director Joachim Westerveld said the new plant would allow the company to expand output while benefiting from lower operational costs through the use of geothermal power and steam.
He explained that improved cost efficiency would help the company provide competitively priced fish feed to farmers and contribute to the development of Kenya’s aquaculture sector.
KenGen has also launched a digital investor platform for the Green Energy Park to provide businesses with information on investment opportunities available within the geothermal-based industrial zone.
The park has attracted several investors, including the Konza Technopolis Development Authority (KoTDA), Eco-cloud, Kaishan Group, Aquilastar Corporate Investment Company, Synergetic Development Group, and Maxim Agri & Samakgro, as part of efforts to promote clean energy-powered industrial development.
