
The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Board of Directors has gathered in Nairobi, Kenya, for a strategic meeting aimed at strengthening collaboration across the organisation’s global network and shaping its future direction.
The meeting brings together regional and international leaders to discuss initiatives focused on empowering energy professionals and students while promoting innovation throughout the global energy industry.
The Board meeting is being hosted by Dr. Riverson Oppong, SPE Africa Regional Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC) in Ghana.
The event highlights Africa’s growing role in the global energy sector and recognises the contributions of SPE volunteers, industry leaders and partners from across the continent.
In a message shared by SPE on LinkedIn, Dr. Oppong said it had been a privilege to see Kenya serve as a centre for technical excellence, leadership and collaboration through events including the SPE Africa Geothermal Workshop, the Student Congress, and the Board of Directors meeting.
He noted that the series of engagements demonstrates the value of knowledge sharing, volunteerism and strong partnerships in advancing a sustainable energy future.
Dr. Oppong also expressed appreciation to the volunteers, speakers, sponsors, partners and participants whose contributions have supported the success of the events, adding that collaboration remains essential to building the future of the energy industry, with Africa playing an increasingly important leadership role.
