Green hydrogen offers a strategic opportunity for South Africa’s clean energy transition, according to a new policy brief by the Africa Policy Research Institute. The report says the country’s abundant renewable energy potential and vast platinum group metals reserves position it to develop new industrial value chains and support decarbonisation.
Addressing the Green Hydrogen Summit, Electricity and Energy Minister Dr. Kgosientsho Ramokgopa said green hydrogen sits at the intersection of energy, manufacturing, transport and logistics, giving South Africa a competitive edge in the global energy transition.
