Gov’t Reviewing EV Tax Incentives with Private Sector – Energy Ministry

Government says it is in ongoing talks with private sector players to review tax incentives and duty charges on electric vehicles, as part of measures to speed up Ghana’s shift to clean and modern transport systems.

Addressing the ERA Conference, Exhibition and EV Experience in Accra, Deputy Minister for Energy and Green Transition Hon. Richard Gyan-Mensah said the review is essential to make electric vehicles more affordable and attractive. He noted that the conversations are aimed at creating a policy environment that supports investment and accelerates the adoption of electric mobility, in line with the country’s broader energy transition plan.

Deputy Transport Minister Dorcas Toffey also stressed the importance of the EV transition, describing it as a necessary step toward a safer, greener and more efficient transport sector. She said government remains committed to working with all partners to ensure a smooth and impactful transition.

Chief Executive Officer of Cubica Energy, Lesley Arthur, welcomed the government’s engagement but called for stronger support for the private sector, which she described as central to Ghana’s EV uptake. She said deliberate incentives and improved infrastructure would significantly boost investment and adoption.

The ERA EV Conference brought together policymakers, technology providers, energy companies and transport stakeholders to explore opportunities and challenges in Ghana’s emerging electric mobility space.
