GoldBod Ends Old Gold Licenses, Launches New Regulatory Era

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has officially revoked all gold trading licenses issued under the former Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) regime.

This announcement was made by GoldBod’s CEO, Sammy Gyamfi, during a press conference held on June 30, 2025.

According to Gyamfi, the old licenses became void after June 21, 2025, which marked the final, non-extendable deadline.

He warned that engaging in any form of gold trading without a new GoldBod-issued license is now a criminal offense.

Gyamfi firmly declared that the previous licensing system, including those from the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, is no longer recognized.

He described this shift as the end of the “illegal regime” and a critical step in enforcing legal gold trade operations.

Despite the deadline, Gyamfi clarified that applications for new licenses remain open to Ghanaians wanting to regularize their businesses.

He stressed that ignorance of the law will not be tolerated, urging all stakeholders to comply immediately.

The move aims to streamline the gold trade sector under a unified, legal framework supervised solely by the Ghana Gold Board.

This marks a major regulatory overhaul to promote transparency and accountability in Ghana’s gold industry.
