The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has dismissed recent allegations of a shortage of Aviation Turbine Kerosene (ATK) fuel in Ghana, assuring the public and airlines that supplies are sufficient for all aircraft operations. In a statement released on July 24, 2025, the Ministry called the claims false and emphasized that there is no cause for concern regarding fuel availability.
The Ministry highlighted that maintenance work on the ATK jetty pipeline has been completed to enhance fuel security, addressing risks that could have affected the integrity of the jetty and the nation’s fuel stability. Ghana recently received an ATK vessel carrying 11,984 metric tons of fuel, with 4,583 metric tons already discharged to PWSL within the last two days.
The remaining fuel is being transferred to the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) and Ridge Depots via the TOR Jetty, with completion expected by midday on July 25, 2025. Deputy Minister Hon. Richard Gyan-Mensah has engaged key stakeholders in the downstream petroleum sector and the Ghana Airport Company Limited to ensure a consistent supply of fuel.
The Ministry urged all stakeholders and the public to disregard any reports suggesting a shortage, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining adequate fuel supplies for the aviation sector.
