GAEC Appoints Professor Francis Hasford as New Deputy Director-General

The Ghana Atomic Energy Commission (GAEC) has appointed Professor Francis Hasford as its new Deputy Director-General, effective June 16, 2025. He succeeds Professor Dickson Adomako, who retired after 23 years of distinguished service. A seasoned Medical Physicist with over 17 years of experience, Professor Hasford previously served as Head of the Department of Medical Physics at the Graduate School of Nuclear and Allied Sciences and as Director of the Radiological and Medical Sciences Research Institute at GAEC. He is also a prominent figure in the international medical physics community, serving as President of the Federation of African Medical Physics Organisations and a member of the International Organization for Medical Physics Executive Committee. His appointment was officially announced by GAEC Director-General, Professor Samuel Boakye Dampare, during the Commission’s mid-year staff durbar, where he highlighted Hasford’s innovative leadership and technical expertise. Professor Hasford has led significant initiatives, including GAEC’s cancer awareness and free screening program, and has contributed to national policy development and capacity building. In his acceptance remarks, he expressed gratitude for the opportunity and a commitment to advancing GAEC’s mission of leveraging nuclear technology for sustainable development in Ghana. GAEC focuses on research and the peaceful application of nuclear science to support the country’s development goals.
