Energy Minister Calls for Stronger Downstream Petroleum Sector Collaboration

Ghana’s Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon. Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor, has called on stakeholders in the downstream petroleum sector to strengthen cooperation with government to build a more resilient and secure industry amid growing geopolitical uncertainties in the Middle East.

Hon. Dr. Jinapor said Ghana was able to avoid the fuel supply challenges that affected some countries in the sub-region in recent years, including disruptions linked to the recent tensions involving Israel, Iran and the United States.

Speaking at the opening of the 7th Ghana International Petroleum Conference in Accra, the minister said continued collaboration among industry players would be critical to protecting Ghana’s energy security and ensuring stability in the fuel supply chain.

He noted that the measures implemented by government and the efforts of sector stakeholders helped the country withstand potential impacts from the Middle East conflict.

“When the U.S.-Israel-Iran conflict began in the Middle East, many people were anxious about Ghana’s fuel supply situation. However, because of the measures we took, and the work that had already been done, we were able to weather the situation,” Hon. Dr. Jinapor said.

He encouraged industry participants to maintain a collective approach in addressing future challenges and strengthening the downstream petroleum sector.
