Minister for Energy and Green Transition Calls for Bold Energy Action, Unveils Solar Farming Plan

Ghana has entered into a strategic agreement with the International Solar Alliance (ISA) to accelerate the rollout of solar energy across the country. The deal was signed on Wednesday in Accra during the Seventh International Solar Alliance (ISA) Regional Meeting for Africa.

The partnership was formalized by Ghana’s Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor, and ISA’s Director-General, Mr. Ashish Khanna. Both parties emphasized that the framework will help Ghana align renewable energy growth with national development goals.

Key priorities include creating a comprehensive solar roadmap, expanding rooftop and community-based solar grids, and boosting agriculture-focused solar applications. The agreement also aims to introduce scalable business models and promote cutting-edge solar technologies for productive use.

Capacity-building will play a central role, with International Solar Alliance (ISA) and Ghana jointly coordinating National Focal Point Support Units to ensure training, knowledge exchange, and alignment with national policies.

ISA highlighted that the deal brings Ghana closer to its vision of a reliable, secure, and sustainable energy future. The collaboration is designed to strengthen institutional frameworks and promote innovation across the solar value chain.

Currently, Ghana has an installed solar capacity of about 200 MWp, with additional solar farms under development awaiting grid connection. The new partnership is expected to accelerate this progress significantly.

Hon. Jinapor welcomed the development, describing it as a milestone in Ghana’s energy transition journey. He stressed the need for collective action to scale renewable solutions beyond national borders.

He appealed to African governments, investors, and private sector players to join forces in expanding renewable energy access across the continent.

According to Hon. Jinapor, the partnership is not just about energy expansion but about transforming Africa’s future. He called for bold vision and collaboration to move from energy poverty to energy prosperity.

With this strategic deal, Ghana positions itself as a regional leader in renewable energy development, paving the way for a greener and more resilient future.
