Asharami Ghana Positions LPG as Key to Clean Energy Transition

Asharami Energy Ghana, a subsidiary of Sahara Group, is reinforcing Ghana’s long-term liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) supply capacity through strategic investments in both offshore and onshore infrastructure, in response to rising demand for clean cooking fuel.

Central to this initiative is the deployment of the MT Asharami Ghana, a 40,000 cubic metre LPG carrier dedicated exclusively to the Ghanaian market. The vessel provides secured offshore capacity, reducing the country’s exposure to global shipping disruptions and freight volatility that have historically impacted LPG availability.

This offshore capability is being complemented by the development of a 12,000 metric tonne LPG storage terminal in Tema, with the first phase of 6,000 metric tonnes expected to be commissioned in 2026. The combined infrastructure is designed to create strategic buffer capacity, enhance stock security, improve import planning, and stabilise downstream market operations.

The integrated investment reflects a shift toward long-term, resilient energy planning, as Ghana’s LPG demand continues to grow due to population expansion, urbanisation, and increasing adoption of clean cooking solutions.
