TOR Clarifies Premix Fuel Production to Enhance Public Trust and Transparency

The Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) has provided detailed insights into its premix fuel production process to promote transparency and improve public understanding of this essential product for Ghana’s fishing communities. During a stakeholder engagement with the National Premix Fuel Committee on July 7, 2025, Acting Managing Director Edmond Kombat explained that premix fuel is a meticulously blended mixture of gasoline and condensate, tailored specifically for marine engines.

Kombat highlighted the importance of strict mixing ratios and safety protocols to ensure fuel efficiency and longevity, especially for the fisherfolk who depend on it. He assured stakeholders that no product leaves the facility without rigorous verification processes in place. This initiative is part of TOR’s broader strategy to increase transparency and address misinformation regarding its role in the premix fuel supply chain.

As the sole producer of premix fuel in Ghana, TOR has faced criticism over supply disruptions and quality concerns, often attributed to external factors. By sharing technical details about its production, the refinery aims to reestablish its expertise and rebuild public confidence. TOR also committed to enhancing national supply through infrastructure improvements, including new storage tanks. Nelson Dafeamekpor, Chairman of the National Premix Fuel Committee, praised TOR for its professionalism and expressed a commitment to collaborate on reforms to improve delivery and oversight.
