Sudan Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris Orders Electricity Restoration in Central Khartoum

Sudan’s Prime Minister, Dr. Kamil Idris, has instructed the Ministry of Energy and relevant authorities to restore electricity supply to Al Hurriya Street in Khartoum as part of ongoing efforts to revive commercial activity in the city.

The directive came during his inspection visit on Monday, where Dr. Idris assessed the progress of business recovery following disruptions caused by the recent conflict. He urged traders not to pay illegal fees, emphasizing that unlawful levies have burdened citizens without benefiting the state. He also noted that over 80 percent of businesses on Al Hurriya Street have resumed operations and instructed Khartoum locality authorities to exercise flexibility toward traders returning to work under exceptional circumstances.

Dr. Idris further visited Al Suk Al Arabi, the downtown market, where he inspected damage to the Gold Building, highlighting the destruction caused by the Rapid Support Forces militias. He encouraged goldsmiths and other traders to return to their shops to support rehabilitation and restore commercial activity.

In addition, the Prime Minister directed the Khartoum State Government to reinstate the Abu Jinzeer Square bus terminal to its former operational status to improve movement and boost business in the Arab Market.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to mobilizing resources to restore Al Suk Al Arabi and ensure commercial activity returns stronger than before. During the visit, Dr. Idris performed the afternoon prayer at the Grand Mosque in the market area, praised ongoing rehabilitation efforts, and donated a solar panel to the mosque and an administrative vehicle to the Directorate of Religious Affairs and Endowments of Khartoum State.

Dr. Kamil Idris also renewed his appeal to Sudanese citizens living abroad to voluntarily return to Khartoum as reconstruction and recovery efforts continue.
