The Ghana Energy Awards has officially launched activities marking its 10th Anniversary Edition with a high level courtesy visit to the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, setting the tone for a landmark year for the industry recognition scheme.
The delegation was led by the Chief Executive Officer of the Awards Secretariat, Ing. Henry Teinor, together with the Chairman of the Awarding Panel, Kwame Jantuah, Esq. Other members of the delegation included Dr. Lawrence Tetteh and Dr. Jemima Nunoo.
The broader Awarding Panel also comprises H.E. Dr. Kwame Ampofo, Ghana’s Ambassador to Hungary, and Prof. Felix Asante, Pro Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana responsible for Research, Innovation and Development.
The team was received in Accra by the Deputy Minister of Energy and Green Transition, Hon. Richard Gyan Mensah, on behalf of the Minister, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor.
The meeting marks the first in a series of activities planned to commemorate a decade of the Awards, which since 2017 has recognised excellence, innovation and outstanding performance across Ghana’s energy value chain.
Independent assessment to support sector oversight
During the meeting, the Awarding Panel formally presented the Site Visitation Report from the 9th Ghana Energy Awards. Presenting the report, Kwame Jantuah, Esq., explained that the exercise serves as an independent technical assessment of selected operational sites reviewed during last year’s evaluation process.
He noted that the report provides expert insights that could assist policy refinement and strengthen the Ministry’s oversight responsibilities across the sector, adding that the Awards’ structured evaluation system enhances credibility while generating actionable recommendations for regulators and industry operators.
Commitment to excellence
Chief Executive Officer Ing. Henry Teinor reaffirmed the Awards’ commitment to promoting operational excellence, innovation and strong governance within Ghana’s energy industry.
He described the anniversary as a renewed pledge to support long term sector development in alignment with national priorities, noting that the courtesy call officially launches a broader calendar of anniversary activities including stakeholder engagements, policy dialogues and commemorative events ahead of the awards ceremony later this year.
Ministry reaffirms strategic priorities
Deputy Minister Richard Gyan Mensah commended the successful execution of the 9th Edition and welcomed the roadmap presented for the 10th anniversary celebration.
He acknowledged the strategic role the Ghana Energy Awards continues to play in recognising performance and encouraging healthy competition within the energy sector, expressing optimism that the anniversary edition would deliver even greater impact.
The Deputy Minister reiterated the Ministry’s openness to partnerships that advance government objectives and inspire innovation across the industry.
Outlining key priorities for 2026, he disclosed that government is working intensively to achieve a national electricity access rate of 90 percent by the end of the year.
He further highlighted Ghana’s ratification of a 2 billion dollar agreement extending the Jubilee and TEN oilfield licences to 2040. The agreement involving Tullow Oil, Kosmos Energy, PetroSA and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation secures investment for up to 20 additional wells aimed at boosting production while increasing GNPC’s stake by 10 percent from 2036. The deal is also expected to enhance domestic gas supply for power generation.
Mr Gyan Mensah added that Ghana has reached an agreement with Nigeria to increase gas supply to support electricity generation. Discussions are also ongoing regarding the country’s nuclear energy pathway, including consideration of small modular reactors and large scale nuclear facilities.
He further disclosed renewed efforts to repair malfunctioning streetlights nationwide to improve public lighting and safety.
The 10th Ghana Energy Awards is expected to celebrate a decade of industry leadership and impact, with further details on anniversary activities, stakeholder engagements and the official theme to be announced in the coming weeks.
