ECG Undertakes Adenta Substation Upgrade to Improve Electricity Stability

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has commenced an upgrade of the Adenta Primary Substation aimed at addressing recurring power interruptions caused by growing electricity demand within Adenta and nearby communities.

The initiative involves increasing the substation’s capacity from 40MVA to 80MVA through the installation of two new transformers to replace existing lower capacity equipment. The upgrade forms part of ECG’s broader strategy to strengthen network infrastructure and enhance service reliability.

Officials explained that the project, which started in February 2026, is progressing steadily and will significantly improve electricity supply across Adenta, Amrahia, Oyarifa, Danfa, sections of Madina and Teiman upon completion.

ECG further urged customers to avoid unauthorised electrical interventions during outages, stressing that illegal connections and improper handling of equipment contribute to transformer failures and prolonged disruptions. The company reaffirmed its commitment to delivering stable and dependable power supply across its operational areas.
