UK Imposes Major Sanctions on Russian Energy Sector

The United Kingdom has announced a sweeping new sanctions package aimed at cutting off critical oil revenues to Russia over its war in Ukraine.

The measures include 300 new sanctions targeting oil exports, military suppliers and key energy infrastructure. Among those affected is Transneft, which handles more than 80 percent of Russian oil exports, as well as 175 companies linked to the so-called “2Rivers” oil network and 48 oil tankers transporting Russian crude.

The package also targets LNG assets, civil nuclear energy firms and individuals tied to overseas nuclear projects. In addition, the UK will provide more than 25 million pounds to help repair Ukraine’s damaged energy infrastructure.
