The Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) has taken its nationwide clean cooking awareness campaign to Malaika Primary School in Kigamboni, engaging parents and teachers on the benefits of using electricity for cooking.
The outreach took place on January 13, 2026, during the school’s Back to School open day. TANESCO’s initiative aims to promote safe, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly cooking methods, encouraging households to shift away from charcoal and firewood.
Speaking at the event, TANESCO Kigamboni Regional Public Relations Officer, Tumaini Mahwaya, emphasized that electric cooking improves health, reduces environmental damage, and is affordable. To support practical adoption, TANESCO donated a 15-kilogram electric pressure cooker to the school to ease food preparation and reduce reliance on unsafe fuels.
Malaika Primary School Head Teacher, Ahmed Abdallah Fataki, welcomed the donation, noting it would enhance meal services for pupils. Parents also visited TANESCO’s information desk, expressing interest in gradually transitioning to electric cooking.
The initiative reflects TANESCO’s commitment to promoting sustainable energy use, public health, and environmental protection while empowering communities with practical knowledge on clean cooking solutions.
