Stratcon Energy Sues IMANI’s Bright Simons for GH¢22 Million Over Defamation

Stratcon Energy and Trading Ltd, alongside its CEO Harry Campbell, have initiated a defamation lawsuit against Bright Simons, Vice President of IMANI Africa, seeking GH¢22 million in damages. The suit, filed on July 23, 2025, at the Accra High Court, alleges that Simons published “false, malicious, reckless, and defamatory” statements intended to damage their professional reputation.

The plaintiffs claim that these remarks exposed them to public ridicule and contempt, arguing that Simons’ posts on his verified X page questioned Campbell’s qualifications and suggested political favoritism in securing emergency fuel supply contracts. One cited excerpt implied that Campbell had been improperly “imposed” on the fuel supply system, raising doubts about his credibility.

The lawsuit requests a perpetual injunction to prevent Simons from making further defamatory statements, alongside a full retraction and a public apology on the same platform where the remarks were made. Stratcon and Campbell assert that the defamatory comments have harmed their business prospects and relationships, leading to negative public and media reactions.

They urge the court to consider the widespread dissemination of the posts and the significant damage caused, reinforcing their call for a public retraction of the allegations.
