Russian President Vladimir Putin has accused “certain Western elites” of deliberately disrupting the global energy system.
Speaking at the 8th Russian Energy Week in Moscow, he said while the restructuring of global energy relations is a natural outcome of emerging economies and rising energy demand, Western political actions, particularly Europe’s refusal to buy Russian energy, have triggered economic setbacks, including rising prices and declining industrial output.
President Putin noted that energy trade is increasingly shifting toward the Global South, with Russia maintaining its position as a top oil producer and boasting one of the world’s greenest energy balances, as 87% of its energy output has low or zero carbon emissions. He also highlighted Russia’s leadership in nuclear technology, with ongoing projects in Bangladesh, Egypt, and Türkiye, predicting that nuclear energy will play a major role in the future global energy mix.
