More OMCs Reduce Pump Prices as Competition Heats Up in Ghana’s Downstream Sector

Competition among oil marketing companies (OMCs) in Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector is intensifying, with more firms cutting pump prices during the second pricing window of January.

On January 19, 2026, Zen Petroleum announced revised uniform prices across all its stations, breaking from the usual practice of selective price reductions. Petrol is now selling at GH¢9.94 per litre—among the lowest prices currently available—while diesel is priced at GH¢11.21 per litre.

JP Oil has also reviewed its prices downward, selling Petrol (SupremA) at GH¢9.89 per litre and Diesel (SupremO) at GH¢10.89 per litre. The company, however, noted that some outlets nationwide will continue to sell at the general prices of GH¢9.99 per litre for petrol and GH¢10.99 per litre for diesel.

TotalEnergies has followed suit, adjusting prices to GH¢10.99 per litre for petrol and GH¢11.99 per litre for diesel.

Shell has implemented similar reductions, with petrol and diesel now retailing at GH¢10.99 per litre and GH¢11.99 per litre respectively. Its premium V-Power product is currently selling at GH¢13.09 per litre.

PETROSOL has also aligned with the downward trend, pricing petrol at GH¢10.98 per litre and diesel at GH¢11.98 per litre.

Industry observers say the latest price movements reflect growing efforts by OMCs to remain competitive as price wars escalate across the sector.

The reductions follow the opening of the second pricing window on January 16, after earlier projections by the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC) signalled a general decline in fuel prices.

State-owned GOIL has introduced promotional discounts at 150 selected stations nationwide. Under the offer, Super XP petrol is selling at GH¢9.99 per litre, down from GH¢10.99 in the first pricing window of January. Diesel XP is being sold at a discounted GH¢11.21 per litre, compared with the previous price of GH¢11.96.

However, Super XP 95 remains unchanged at GH¢13.97 per litre, even at the discounted stations.

Star Oil has also reduced prices at several outlets nationwide. Super petrol is now selling at GH¢9.97 per litre at 175 stations, down from GH¢10.56 in the first pricing window, though some outlets continue to sell at the earlier price.

Diesel is now priced at GH¢10.97 per litre, down from GH¢11.56, while selected outlets have retained the old price. RON 95 has also declined, selling at GH¢12.54 per litre compared with GH¢12.96 previously.

Market players attribute the latest price cuts largely to the continued appreciation of the Ghana cedi against major trading currencies, as well as sustained declines in international petroleum product prices.
