The global energy transition is fueling one of the fastest job booms worldwide, with energy sector employment reaching 76 million in 2024—more than double the growth rate of the wider economy, according to the IEA. Most new jobs are in solar, power networks, EV manufacturing, and battery production, spreading from rooftops and factories to data centres and vehicle supply chains.
Emerging economies such as India, Indonesia, and parts of the Middle East are capturing the biggest gains, while advanced economies add jobs more slowly. However, the sector faces growing skills shortages, with electricians, engineers, and technicians in high demand, even as millions more energy jobs are expected into the 2030s.
