The Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) provided insights into the composition and production process of premix fuel during a stakeholder visit on July 7, 2025, aimed at enhancing public understanding of the product used by Ghana’s fishing communities. TOR’s technical team clarified that premix fuel is a specialized blend of gasoline and condensate, produced through precise mixing ratios to ensure optimal performance for marine engines.
This initiative is part of TOR’s commitment to transparency and public education regarding its role in the premix fuel value chain. The refinery, being the sole producer of premix fuel in Ghana, has faced criticism for supply inconsistencies and quality issues, which it attributes to factors beyond its control. By explaining the technical aspects of premix production, TOR seeks to dispel misinformation and reinforce its credibility in fuel blending operations.
Additionally, TOR highlighted its efforts to enhance national supply through infrastructure improvements, including new storage tanks and a modernized loading gantry system. The National Premix Fuel Committee, led by Nelson Dafeamekpor, praised TOR for its transparency and professionalism, committing to collaborate on reforms to enhance delivery and oversight in the sector.
