The Tanzanian government has unveiled plans to invest $12.9 billion to boost its power grid and add 2.4 GW of capacity by 2030. This initiative, part of the National Energy Compact, aims to increase electricity access from 46% in 2022 to 75%, with significant contributions from the private sector.
The government has committed $8.85 billion, while an additional $4.04 billion is expected from international partners, including the World Bank, the African Development Bank (AfDB), the European Union, and USAID. The investment will fund new hydropower, solar, and wind projects, modernize existing infrastructure, and develop decentralized systems to electrify remote areas.
