Power sector stakeholders have welcomed the appointment of Ing. Dr. Robert Kofi Lartey as the acting CEO of Ghana National Gas Company Limited (Ghana Gas) following the resignation of Dr. Ben K. D. Asante, who served for eight years. Many view this move as a step in the right direction, citing Dr. Lartey’s extensive experience in the energy and power sector.
Energy civil society groups have also expressed support, emphasizing that appointing a Ghanaian expert will strengthen the company’s role in the critical gas industry.
Dr. Lartey’s appointment comes under a government directive, as the Ghana Gas board has yet to be reconstituted.
His leadership is expected to drive reliable and sustainable gas supply for domestic, power, and industrial use. He has built strong relationships with key sector players, including the PURC, Energy Commission, Volta River Authority (VRA), Chamber of Independent Power Producers (IPPs), and civil society groups like ACEP and Imani, positioning him well to lead the company through this transition.
