Nuclear energy will put Ghana in debt, cause generational harm – Experts

Experts on energy issues have raised concerns about the potential effects of nuclear energy on Ghana’s economy and Africa’s future, urging the continent to reconsider its energy strategies.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra on January 23, 2025, Alberta Kpeleku, representing 360 Human Rights and the Ghana Anti-Nuclear Movement, highlighted the environmental, health, and economic risks associated with nuclear power.

She stressed the dangers of nuclear accidents, radioactive waste, and long-term contamination, along with health implications such as cancer and genetic damage. Kpeleku emphasized, “It’s time to reevaluate our reliance on nuclear power due to its hidden and devastating consequences.”
