NPA Issues Urgent LPG Safety Advisory

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has cautioned against storing Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders indoors, citing the risk of fire outbreaks from undetectable gas leaks.

Head of Consumer Services at the NPA, Eunice Budu Nyarko, emphasized the importance of keeping cylinders outdoors for safety, urging the public to adopt protective measures against theft instead of compromising safety.

As part of its safety campaign, the NPA has engaged communities in Nsawam, Suhum, and Koforidua, educating the public on LPG safety through interactive sessions and firefighting demonstrations.

The authority is also promoting the Cylinder Recirculation Model (CRM), which allows consumers to exchange old cylinders for new ones, improving safety. Additionally, the public is advised to ensure proper ventilation, keep cylinders away from flames, and avoid using mobile phones near gas.
