30 African Heads of State Commit to Transform Africa’s Energy Sector

Thirty African Heads of State and governments have committed to expanding access to reliable, affordable, and sustainable electricity through the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration, endorsed at the Mission 300 Africa Energy Summit.

With over 600 million people in Africa still living without electricity, this landmark declaration aims to close the continent’s energy gap. As part of the Mission 300 initiative, partners have pledged over 50 billion US dollars to support energy access, with the goal of connecting 300 million Africans to electricity by 2030. The Declaration will be submitted to the African Union Summit for adoption in February.

The Mission 300 Africa Energy Summit was hosted by the United Republic of Tanzania, the African Union, the African Development Bank Group (AfDB), and the World Bank Group (WBG), with support from the Rockefeller Foundation, Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP), Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP), Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) and the Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa.
